The Grand cinema was opened on 2 April 1923, under the management of Mr David Stratton. Mr Tom Fyall took over as the manager nine months after the opening.
During this period silent films were shown like the advertised "The Ice Flood" in 1926/1927.
The first Talkie was "Under the Greenwood Tree" shown in 1929.
